EDUCATION
Education & Libraries
Our education programme extends from local schools to the surrounding communities with equal importance and emphasis on cross generational knowledge. We are setting up libraries in the schools surrounding Lake Mutanda to teach local children about the importance of the flora and fauna of their wetlands through accessible story telling to inspire the younger generation to conserve and to protect their future.
We are also engaging the older generation of locals through educational workshops and taking community members into the field to learn about the ecosystem and how protecting the wetlands will have a positive impact on them personally and for their community as a whole.
Story telling, from older generations in the community, with tales of how the lake once was, supports inter-generational understanding of the importance of the wetlands.
Alongside the books, learning takes place through osmosis with key species mapped and identified on the walls. The hope is for children to look outside of their books, to be able to relate what they learn into the real world as we move towards holding workshops in the field.
